The Redeemed Christian Church of God was founded in 1952 in Lagos, Nigeria, by Reverend Josiah Akindayomi. The church began as a small gathering of believers who sought to deepen their relationship with God through worship, teaching, and prayer. Over the years, under Reverend Akindayomi’s leadership, the RCCG grew significantly, reaching out to more people and expanding its mission of evangelism and community service.
In 1981, Pastor E.A. Adeboye became the General Overseer of the church, ushering in a new era of growth and development. His leadership style emphasized spiritual growth, holiness, and a commitment to the Great Commission. Under Pastor Adeboye’s guidance, the RCCG established a robust structure that allowed for the rapid planting of parishes both in Nigeria and internationally. The church’s vision of “Winning Souls” became more pronounced, leading to a significant increase in membership and the establishment of numerous outreach programs.
Today, the RCCG is recognized as one of the fastest-growing churches globally, with thousands of branches in various countries. The church continues to focus on evangelism, education, and charitable efforts, while maintaining its core beliefs rooted in the Bible. The RCCG’s annual convention and other events attract thousands of participants, indicating its vibrant community of believers committed to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.
